Another 5000 Express Entry candidates received invitations to apply for Canadian permanent residency

EXPRESS ENTRY DRAW #169: December 9, 2020

Canada issued another highest-ever 5000 Invitations to apply (ITAs) for permanent residency to immigration candidates in a new Express Entry Draw held on December 9, 2020.

In order to receive an ITA in this invitation round, candidates were required to have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) Score of 469.

With this draw, Canada has now issued total 102,350 ITAs this year, which is a record high number of invitations issued in a year ever.

The Express Entry system is Canada’s primary source of skilled foreign workers. It manages the profiles of candidates under three Federal High Skilled economic class immigration programs: Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class and Canadian Experience Class.

Eligible candidates enter the Express Entry pool, where they are issued a CRS score based on their age, education, skilled work experience and proficiency in English or French, among other factors.

A set number of highest-ranked candidates are then invited to apply for Canadian permanent residence through regular draws from the pool.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) applied the tie-breaking rule in this draw. Candidates who had a CRS score of 469 or more, needed to have submitted their Express Entry profile before June 4, 2020, at 22:26:05 UTC in order to receive an ITA in this invitation round.

The large number of ITAs issued in last few Express Entry draws is a strong indication of Canada’s commitment to welcome more than 400,000 new immigrants in 2021. More than 100,000 of these immigrants will come through the Express Entry system.
