Canada invited 5000 immigration candidates to apply for permanent residency in new Express Entry Draw

EXPRESS ENTRY DRAW #170: December 23, 2020

Canada invited another 5000 immigration candidates to apply for permanent residency in a new Express Entry Draw held on December 23, 2020.

Candidates, who received an Invitation to apply (ITA) in this draw had a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of at least 468.

The minimum Express Entry cutoff score requirement for this draw is a reduction of one point than the previous invitation round held on December 9, when candidates needed a minimum score of 469.

With this draw, Canada caps off the year with 107,350 ITAs issued to immigration candidates – a record high number of invitations issued since Express Entry’s launch in 2015.

The Express Entry system is Canada’s primary source of skilled foreign workers. It manages the profiles of candidates under three Federal High Skilled economic class immigration programs: Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class and Canadian Experience Class.

Eligible candidates enter the Express Entry pool, where they are issued a CRS score based on their age, education, skilled work experience and proficiency in English or French, among other factors.

A set number of highest-ranked candidates are then invited to apply for Canadian permanent residence through regular draws from the pool.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) applied the tie-breaking rule in this draw and the time-stamp used was June 4, 2020 at 13:39:44 UTC. This means the candidates who had a CRS score of 468 or more, who had submitted their Express Entry profile before this time and date, received an invitation in this draw.

Canada will target the highest level of immigration in its history over the coming three years. Over 100,000 of these immigrants will come each year through Canada’s popular Express Entry system with a further 80,000 approx. coming through Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).

As of December 21, 2020, there were a total of 147,487 immigration candidates in the Express Entry pool. Majority of these candidates (47,897) have CRS scores between 351- 400, whereas a total of 25,187candidates have CRS scores between 451-500.

Express Entry candidates with low CRS scores can increase their points through a variety of options, which include:

  • Obtain a provincial nomination by applying through an Express-Entry aligned PNP, which award them additional 600 points toward their CRS scores.
  • Improve their language proficiency level
  • Secure a LMIA-approved job offer
  • Complete an additional level of education
  • Get more work experience (in Canada & outside)
  • Get Canadian Study experience
  • Get additional points for spouse

British Columbia invited 230 candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residence on December 22

The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) invited 230 candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residency in new immigration draw held on December 22.

Candidates were invited under the Skilled Worker, International Graduate, and Entry-Level & Semi-Skilled sub-categories of Express Entry BC (EEBC) and Skills Immigration streams.

 The Express Entry BC (EEBC) Category allows BCPNP to search Federal Express Entry pool to find qualified international workers or graduates who have the qualifications, education and work experience to fill positions that are in high-demand in the province and invite them to apply for provincial nomination.

The Skills Immigration Category of BCPNP is designed for skilled and semi-skilled workers whose occupations are in high demand in British Columbia

In order to receive an invitation for provincial nomination through the EEBC, candidates need to be registered under both the federal Express Entry system and B.C.’s Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS) whereas Skills Immigration candidates only have to be registered with the SIRS.

All invited candidates under the Skills Immigration and Express Entry categories had an indeterminate, full-time job offer with an employer in B.C.

Candidates invited under the EEBC: Skilled Worker and EEBC: International Graduate categories will automatically receive an additional 600 CRS points toward their comprehensive ranking system (CRS) scores, if their applications get approved by BCPNP.

This effectively guaranties them an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence in subsequent Federal Express Entry Draw.

SINP Draw

Saskatchewan invited 576 immigration candidates for provincial nomination in new PNP draw on December 17

The Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) invited 576 candidates to apply for provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence in its new immigration draw held on December 27.

Invitations were issued to candidates under the International Skilled Worker category through two subcategories: Express Entry, and Occupations In-Demand.

Out of total invitations issued, 190 went to candidates having a profile in Express Entry System and 386 were issued to Occupations In-Demand candidates.

In order to be invited in this draw, candidates from both sub-categories needed an Expression of Interest (EOI) score of at least 71 points on the SINP’s Points Assessment Grid.

Invited candidates had work experience in one of 89 select occupations.

The Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program, or SINP, allows the province to nominate qualified foreign workers who have the potential to thrive in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence.

It is also one of the easiest Provincial Nominee Programs to apply. While a minimum of one year of full-time work experience is essential to apply for both of its subcategories – Express Entry and Occupation in Demand, a job offer or work experience in Canada is not required.

In order to apply for a provincial nomination through either of these streams, candidates need to first register an EOI with the SINP.

Eligible EOIs are then awarded a score out of 100 based on the SINP’s International Skilled Worker Points Assessment Grid, which allot them points based on their work experience, education, language ability, age, and connections to the province. High-scoring candidates are then invited to apply for provincial nomination through regular draws conducted by the SINP.

Express Entry candidates, who obtain a nomination through the SINP’s Express Entry sub-category, receive additional 600 points toward their CRS scores, effectively increasing their chances to get an invitation to apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence in subsequent Express Entry draw.

Prince Edward Island Invited 195 Immigration Candidates in New PNP Draw on December 17

The Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) issued total 195 invitations for a provincial nomination for Canadian Permanent Residency in its last scheduled immigration draw of the year on December 17.

Candidates under the Express Entry, Labour Impact, and Business Impact streams of PEI PNP received invites in this draw.

Out of the total 195 invitations issued, 174 went to Express Entry and Labour Impact candidates, while the remaining 21 were issued to Business Impact candidates who had a minimum point threshold of 85.

PEI PNP’s Express Entry Category is for candidates with a profile in the federal Express Entry system.

Express Entry candidates, who would like to be considered for a provincial nomination from the province, need to create a separate Expression of interest (EOI) profile with the PEI PNP.

These profiles are given a score on the basis of information provided in their EOI based on factors such as education, work experience and proficiency in English or French. The highest-ranked candidates are invited to apply for a provincial nomination through regular draws.

Express Entry candidates with a provincial nomination get an additional 600 point toward their overall Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, which effectively guarantees them an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in a subsequent Express Entry draw.

PEI PNP’s Labour Impact Category is not aligned with the Express Entry system and is designed for foreign nationals with a valid job offer in the province and support from a PEI employer.

Candidates in this category may fall under three possible streams: Skilled Worker (in PEI and outside Canada), Critical Worker and International Graduate.

PEI PNP’s Business Impact: Work Permit Stream is for individuals interested in owning and operating a business on the island. This stream also operates on a points-based EOI system.

Manitoba invited 419 immigration candidates to apply for a provincial nomination in its largest PNP Draw of 2020

The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) conducted its biggest immigration draw of the year on December 17.

Total 419 immigration candidates working in a regulated occupation under Skilled Workers in Manitoba, Skilled Workers Overseas and International Education Streams of MPNP received invitations, also known as Letters of Advice to Apply (LAAs) for provincial nomination for Canadian Permanent Residency.

Out of the total 419 invitations issued, 37 went to Express Entry candidates.

The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) is one of the most popular Canadian PNPs that allows Manitoba to nominate foreign workers and international graduates of its post-secondary institutions for Canadian permanent residence through its three popular immigration pathways.

In order to apply under both the Skilled Workers Overseas and Skilled Workers in Manitoba categories, applicants need to first register an Expression of Interest (EOI) with the MPNP.

These EOI profiles are scored on the Manitoba points’ grid out of a total score of 1,000 based on their human capital characteristics including their English or French language skills, work experience, education, Manitoba connections, and other factors. Candidates with the highest scores are then invited to apply for provincial nomination through regular draws conducted by the MPNP.

Express Entry Candidates who receive a provincial nomination are awarded an additional 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points and are effectively guaranteed an Invitation to Apply (ITA) from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada in subsequent Express Entry Draw.

This draw brings the total number of LAAs issued by MPNP so far this year up to 4,888.
