141+ candidates received invitations to apply for a provincial nomination for Canada PR in a new British Columbia PNP Draw

British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) released details of its weekly draw held on June 7, 2022.

More than 141 applicants received invitations to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residency (PR) under 3 different categories from Skilled Worker, International Graduate, and Entry Level and Semi-Skilled subcategories of BC PNP.

Distribution of invitations

Draw Immigration Category Number of Invitations Minimum Score
Tech  Draw Skilled Worker, International Graduate (includes EEBC option) 125 85
Childcare: Early childhood educators and assistants (NOC 4214) Skilled Worker, International Graduate (includes EEBC option) 16 60
Healthcare Occupations Skilled Worker, International Graduate, Entry Level and Semi-Skilled (includes EEBC option) <5 60

The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) offers a fast-track pathway for high-demand skilled foreign workers to gain permanent residency and immigrate directly to British Columbia.

The Express Entry BC (EEBC) stream of BCPNP allows the province to search & invite qualified candidates with a valid profile in the Federal Express Entry system. The Skills Immigration Category of BCPNP is designed for skilled and semi-skilled workers whose occupations are in high demand in the province.

In order to receive an invitation to apply for a provincial nomination under one of those two streams, candidates need to first create a profile through the BC PNP’s online portal and register under its Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS).

Express Entry candidates, whose applications get approved by BCPNP, will automatically receive additional 600 points toward their comprehensive ranking system (CRS) scores. This effectively guarantees them an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence in subsequent Federal Express Entry Draw.

British Columbia conducts one of the most frequent and regular PNP draws in Canada through its various BC PNP categories and streams.

Canada invited 932 Express Entry candidates with a provincial nomination to apply for PR on June 8

Express Entry Draw #224 –June 8, 2022

Canada invited 932 Express Entry candidates with a provincial nomination to apply for PR on June 8

Canada conducted the largest Express Entry draw since March on June 8, 2022.

A total of 932 Express Entry candidates received invitations to apply (ITAs) for permanent residence in this draw.

The draw was restricted to immigration candidates, who had previously received a nomination through a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP); therefore, the minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score required to receive an ITA in this draw was 796.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) applied the tie-breaking rule and the time-stamp used was October 10, 2021 at 17:13:17 UTC. This means that PNP candidates who had a CRS score of 796 or more and had submitted their Express Entry profile before this time and date, received an ITA in this round of invitations.

Express Entry Draws for FSWP & CEC candidates are set to resume in July

In long-anticipated news, Canada’s immigration minister – Sean Fraser made an important announcement that Express Entry Draws for Federal Skilled Worker (FSWP) and Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates will resume in early July 2022.

Since September 2021, IRCC has only been holding PNP-specific draws as these candidates are highly likely to be in Canada already. Moreover, increasing backlog in applications was another major reason that IRCC conducted only PNP-specific Express Entry draws.  The immigration department wanted to cut Express Entry backlogs in at least half before resuming the all-program Express Entry round of invitations.

This is great news for FSWP and CEC candidates who are stuck in the Express Entry pool and curiously waiting for the resumption of general draws.

As of June 6, there were a total of 215,316 Express Entry profiles in the pool.

Immigration candidates, who received invitations in this draw, have 60 days to submit a complete permanent residence application to IRCC.

Out of total invitations issued, 115 went to tech candidates from the Skilled Worker and International Graduate subcategories of BC PNP through a Tech draw. In order to get an invite, candidates needed a minimum provincial score of 85.

BC PNP also invited 11 early childhood educators and 11 healthcare professionals in two separate draws. The minimum provincial score requirement in both of these draws was 60 points.

The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP)

Created in 2001, BC PNP allows the province of B.C. to select and nominate qualified prospective economic immigrants for permanent residence status in Canada.

BC PNP uses an online, points-based expression of interest (EOI) system to manage application intake. Applicants need to first register an EOI profile that establishes a point score based on various factors – level of education, work experience, language skills, occupation, and job offer, among others.

The BC PNP then periodically issues invitations to apply for provincial nomination to the highest-scoring candidates.

Upon receiving a nomination from BC PNP, successful candidates can apply to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for Canada PR Visa for themselves and their eligible family members.

Canada Express Entry system

Express Entry is a selection system for Canadian immigration, designed to select skilled workers for immigration to Canada. Express Entry is a completely electronic process and manages applications for permanent residence under these federal economic immigration programs:

·         The Federal Skilled Worker (FSW)
·         The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
.         The Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

Throughout the pandemic, IRCC focused on conducting PNP-only draws to support provincial immigration goals.

However, IRCC is resuming Express Entry draws for FSWP and CEC candidates in “early July.” Canada’s immigration department has also confirmed that it will soon once again be processing most new Express Entry applications within six months.

Invited Express Entry candidates now have 60 calendar days to submit a complete immigration application to IRCC.
