Canada invited 5000 immigration candidates to apply for permanent residency in new Express Entry Draw

EXPRESS ENTRY DRAW #170: December 23, 2020

Canada invited another 5000 immigration candidates to apply for permanent residency in a new Express Entry Draw held on December 23, 2020.

Candidates, who received an Invitation to apply (ITA) in this draw had a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of at least 468.

The minimum Express Entry cutoff score requirement for this draw is a reduction of one point than the previous invitation round held on December 9, when candidates needed a minimum score of 469.

With this draw, Canada caps off the year with 107,350 ITAs issued to immigration candidates – a record high number of invitations issued since Express Entry’s launch in 2015.

The Express Entry system is Canada’s primary source of skilled foreign workers. It manages the profiles of candidates under three Federal High Skilled economic class immigration programs: Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class and Canadian Experience Class.

Eligible candidates enter the Express Entry pool, where they are issued a CRS score based on their age, education, skilled work experience and proficiency in English or French, among other factors.

A set number of highest-ranked candidates are then invited to apply for Canadian permanent residence through regular draws from the pool.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) applied the tie-breaking rule in this draw and the time-stamp used was June 4, 2020 at 13:39:44 UTC. This means the candidates who had a CRS score of 468 or more, who had submitted their Express Entry profile before this time and date, received an invitation in this draw.

Canada will target the highest level of immigration in its history over the coming three years. Over 100,000 of these immigrants will come each year through Canada’s popular Express Entry system with a further 80,000 approx. coming through Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).

As of December 21, 2020, there were a total of 147,487 immigration candidates in the Express Entry pool. Majority of these candidates (47,897) have CRS scores between 351- 400, whereas a total of 25,187candidates have CRS scores between 451-500.

Express Entry candidates with low CRS scores can increase their points through a variety of options, which include:

  • Obtain a provincial nomination by applying through an Express-Entry aligned PNP, which award them additional 600 points toward their CRS scores.
  • Improve their language proficiency level
  • Secure a LMIA-approved job offer
  • Complete an additional level of education
  • Get more work experience (in Canada & outside)
  • Get Canadian Study experience
  • Get additional points for spouse

Ontario Invited 668 Express Entry Candidates for Provincial Nomination in New Tech Draw on December 15

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) conducted its fifth Tech Draw of 2020 on Tuesday, December 15.

A total of 668 Express Entry candidates received invitations to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian Permanent residency in this draw.

In order to receive an invitation or Notification of Interest (NOI) in this draw, candidates were required to have a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score between 460 and 468.

NOIs were issued to immigration candidates who had at least one year of work experience in one of the following tech occupations:

  • NOC 0213 Computer and information systems managers
  • NOC 2147 Computer engineers
  • NOC 2172 Database analysts and data administrators
  • NOC 2173 Software engineers and designers
  • NOC 2174 Computer programmer and interactive media developers
  • NOC 2175 Web designers and developers

Candidates, who wish to be considered for selection by the OINP through its Human Capital Priorities Stream or any of its Express Entry streams, are required to first submit a profile in the Express Entry pool.

The OINP regularly searches Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC) Express Entry pool to find eligible candidates who meet the criteria of one of Ontario’s Express Entry immigration streams and then invite them to apply for Canadian permanent residence through regular draws.

Express Entry candidates, who successfully receive a provincial nomination, get additional 600 points toward their CRS score, which effectively increase their chances to get an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence in subsequent Express Entry draw.

Candidates, who received the NOI in this draw, now have 45 calendar days to submit their application for the provincial nomination to OINP.

Ontario has now issued total 9,082 invitations across its various immigration streams so far in 2020.
