Express Entry Draw #234– October 26, 2022

CRS score dropped below 500; 4,750 Express Entry candidates received ITAs to apply for permanent residency (PR)

A total of 4,750 Express Entry candidates with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 496 received invitations to apply (ITAs) for Canada permanent residency (PR) in a new draw held on October 26, 2022.

The CRS score cut-off threshold dropped below 500 for the first time since IRCC resumed all-program Express Entry draws in July.

The draw considered candidates in all Express Entry programs: Federal Skilled Worker (FSW), Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and Federal Skilled Trades (FST).

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) also applied the tie-breaking rule and the time-stamp was set for May 09, 2022 09:04:20 UTC. If more than one candidate has the lowest CRS score, the cut-off is based on the date and time they submitted their profiles in the Express Entry pool.

Upcoming changes in the Express Entry System

IRCC has confirmed that Express Entry reforms named in Bill C-19 will come into force in early 2023. The measure would radically overhaul the Canadian Express Entry system that allows foreign skilled workers and temporary residents to seek permanent status in Canada. It will give IRCC the authority to invite Express Entry candidates from the pool based on an economic goal.

Currently, Canada invites the highest-ranked Express Entry candidates to apply for permanent residency based on their CRS score. However, the new changes will allow IRCC to conduct targeted Express Entry draws and invite candidates based on factors like their occupation, language abilities, education credential, or other factors that correspond to Canada’s labour market needs.
