IRCC invited 1,750 Express Entry candidates to apply for permanent residency

Express Entry Draw #227 –July 20, 2022

IRCC invited 1,750 Express Entry candidates to apply for permanent residency (PR)

Canada invited another 1,750 Express Entry candidates to apply for permanent residence in a new all-program Express Entry draw on July 20.

The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score cut-off threshold for this draw was 542 points – a drop of 15 points from the previous all-program draw held on July 6, 2022.

This was the second all-program draw since July 6, which considered candidates in all Express Entry programs: Federal Skilled Worker (FSW), Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and Federal Skilled Trades (FST).

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) also applied the tie-breaking rule and the time-stamp was set for December 30, 2021 at 15:29:35 UTC. If more than one candidate has the lowest CRS score, the cut-off is based on the date and time they submitted their profiles in the Express Entry pool.

As per the Government of Canada’s Immigration Levels Plan for 2022-2024, Canada is looking to welcome 55,900 new immigrants through Express Entry in 2022; 75,750 in 2023, and then the highest-ever 111,500 new permanent residents in 2024.

Changes are coming in the Express Entry draws in early 2023

IRCC has confirmed that Express Entry reforms named in the recently-passed Bill C-19 will come into force in early 2023. It will give IRCC the authority to invite Express Entry candidates from the pool based on an economic goal.

Currently, Canada invites the highest-ranked Express Entry candidates to apply for permanent residency based on their CRS score. However, the new changes will allow IRCC to conduct targeted Express Entry draws and invite candidates based on factors like their occupation, language abilities, education credential, or other factors that correspond to Canada’s labour market needs.
