Alberta PNP invited 400 Express Entry candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian PR

The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP), which will now be called the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP), released the details of its latest immigration draw held earlier this month.

On February 1, Canada’s province of Alberta invited 400 Express Entry candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian Permanent Residency through AINP’s Express Entry Stream.

Candidates needed a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of at least 340 in order to be invited in this draw.

Express Entry candidates, who successfully receive a nomination from Alberta or any Express Entry aligned PNP, get an additional 600 points towards their overall CRS score. This effectively increase their chances to get an invitation to apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence in subsequent Express Entry- PNP round of invitations.

New PNP name and immigration programs

Speaking at the inaugural Premier’s Summit on Fairness for Newcomers, Alberta Premier Jason Kenney also announced the Alberta’s immigration program- the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program will now be called the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP).

He also announced the launch of two new immigration streams – the Rural Renewal Stream and the Rural Entrepreneur Stream that are intended to encourage foreign skilled professionals and entrepreneurs to settle in rural Alberta communities.

The Rural Renewal Stream is designed for candidates who have an eligible job offer from an Alberta employer to work in a designated rural Alberta community.

The Rural Entrepreneur Stream is intended for foreign entrepreneurs who want to establish or buy an existing business in a rural Alberta community.

A record 1,082 PNP candidates received invitations to apply for Canada PR in new Express Entry Draw

Express Entry Draw #216– February 16, 2022

A record 1,082 PNP candidates received invitations to apply for Canada PR in new Express Entry Draw

Canada invited a record number of Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates to apply for permanent residency in new Express Entry Draw on February 16, 2022.

A total of 1,082 Express Entry candidates with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 710 received Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in the new invitation round.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) restricted the draw for only those candidates, who previously obtained a nomination from an Express Entry-aligned PNP.

Express Entry candidates, who successfully receive a provincial nomination, automatically get 600 additional points toward their overall CRS score.  This is the reason that CRS cut-off score for PNP-specific draws is usually high.

IRCC applied the tie-breaking rule and the time-stamp used was October 07, 2021 at 11:36:55 UTC. This means the PNP candidates who had a CRS score of 710 or more and had submitted their Express Entry profile before this time and date, received an ITA in this round of invitations.

Canada Express Entry System

The Express Entry system is Canada’s primary source of skilled foreign workers. It manages the profiles of candidates under three Federal High Skilled economic class immigration programs: Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSW), Federal Skilled Trades Class (FST) and Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

Eligible candidates enter the Express Entry pool, where they are issued a CRS score based on their age, education, skilled work experience and proficiency in English or French, among other factors.  A set number of highest-ranked candidates are then invited to apply for Canadian permanent residence through regular draws from the pool.

Since September 2021, IRCC has only been holding PNP-specific draws as these candidates are highly likely to be in Canada already.

Canada’s Immigration Minister Sean Fraser recently stated that IRCC would resume Express Entry draws for federal skilled workers “in the near term”.

He further added that he was looking into how to make the Express Entry system more flexible to respond to short-term needs including welcoming people into smaller communities and sectors that are in high demand.

Nova Scotia invited 278 nurses, who had profiles in the Federal Express Entry system, to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian Permanent Residency in new immigration draw held on February 8, 2021.

Invitations, also known as Letters of Interest (LOIs), were issued to candidates who may be eligible for the Nova Scotia Nominee Program’s (NSNP) Labour Market Priorities Stream.

To get the nomination from NSNP, invited candidates need to:

  • CLB score of 9 or higher in English or French in all language abilities;
  • have at least three years of experience in their occupation;

Candidates, who received an LAA in this draw, now have to submit their complete application for provincial nomination to NSNP before midnight on March 10. Successful candidates will be awarded an additional 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points. This will increase their chances to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada in subsequent Express Entry Draw.

Immigration candidates, who received invitations in these draws, now have 45 calendar days to submit their complete application for provincial nomination to Ontario PNP.

British Columbia invited 126 tech candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian Permanent Residency on February 1

The Canadian province of British Columbia invited 126 tech candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian Permanent Residency in new immigration draw on February 1, 2022.

The invitations were issued through the BC PNP Tech – a popular immigration stream under the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP), which is designed to help employers in British Columbia’s technology sector to find and select qualified international tech workers.

Candidates who received invitations in this draw were from the Skilled Worker and International Graduate subcategories of BC PNP’s Express Entry BC and Skills immigration categories and needed a minimum provincial score of 80.

BC PNP Tech Program

Launched in May 2017 as a pilot project, the BC PNP Tech provides a fast-track immigration pathway to qualified foreign tech workers and international students, who want to become permanent residents of Canada.  Given the success of the pilot, BC PNP made it a permanent program in May 2021.

In order to apply through this stream, immigration candidates need to have a full-time job offer in one of 29 eligible tech occupations from an eligible employer in the province. The job offer must be valid for a minimum of one year with at least 120 days remaining at the time of submitting the application.

The eligible candidates need to first create a profile through the BC PNP’s online portal and register under SIRS. They must choose to apply through the Skills Immigration or Express Entry BC immigration categories.

The BC PNP will then invite top-scoring candidates who meet the eligibility requirements to apply for a provincial nomination through weekly draws conducted by BC PNP.

Candidates, who received an invitation in this draw, now have 30 calendar days to submit their complete application for provincial nomination to the BC PNP.

So far this year, British Columbia PNP has invited 840 immigration candidates to apply for provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residency.
